Power Integrations' latest LED driver IC improves LED commercial lighting performance

Power IntegraTIons (Nasdaq: POWI), a world leader in the field of LED driver ICs, today launched its latest LED driver IC product line, which is designed for consumer, commercial and industrial lighting applications. The newly launched LYTSwitch ™ IC product family can achieve precise voltage regulation and high efficiency in tube replacement applications and high-bay lighting, while providing excellent performance in SCR dimmable bulb applications. The new IC product series can provide quick start, but there is no sudden brightening phenomenon and dimming dead zone, high efficiency and high reliability.

LYTSwitch IC integrates PFC and constant current (CC) into a single switching stage, which can improve the efficiency in typical applications to more than 90%, make the power factor greater than 0.95, and easily meet the total harmonic distortion of EN61000-3-2C (THD) requirements. After the design is optimized, THD can be less than 10%. The integrated single-stage converter topology can also eliminate high-voltage large-capacity electrolytic capacitors, thereby greatly extending the life of the driver, even at high ambient temperatures. Accurate primary-side control allows the driver to achieve truly strict constant current performance. The constant current adjustment rate under different loads, a wider temperature range, and manufacturing differences is better than +/- 5%, so more stringent Design margins and reduce system costs. The high switching frequency of 132 kHz means that smaller, lower-cost magnetic cores can be used in space-constrained light bulb applications, while frequency jitter also ensures reduced design requirements for EMI filters. LYTSwitch devices can provide all common safety features of Power IntegraTIons products, including overvoltage, overcurrent and overheat protection.

The LYTSwitch series of LED driver ICs are used in conjunction with leading-edge and trailing-edge thyristor dimmers to achieve excellent dimming performance and easily achieve NEMA SSL6 standards even at low conduction angles. The start-up speed of the driver is very fast, usually less than 500 milliseconds, and the start-up speed is also very fast even when the light output of 10% is turned on. The bulb designed with LYTSwitch IC can be turned on at almost the same dimming angle as when it is turned off, which virtually eliminates the sudden brightening phenomenon. In addition, the dead zone in the thyristor dimming is also eliminated, because the LYTSwitch controller can ensure that the dimmer is dimmed as soon as it starts to work.

LYTSwitch IC samples are now available in eSIP-7C (E package) and eSIP-7F (L package), and the unit price per piece is from 0.70 to 1.60 USD based on the order quantity of 10,000 pieces.
