Supertex has launched the LED driver IC "HV9985" with an input voltage range of +10 to 40V. Integrated 3-channel drive circuit for driving R (red), G (green) and B (blue) LED strings (connecting LED components) or driving 3 white LED strings. Mainly for LED backlights for LCD TVs.
The product integrates a Linear Regulator that converts the +10 to 40V input voltage to +5V to the IC's internal circuitry. Inside the IC, three switching regulator control circuits that stabilize the voltage supplied to the LEDs are integrated. Peak current mode control is used.
The switch component (power MOS FET) needs to be external, but this time the product integrates a gate drive circuit. Supports 0.25A source current and 0.5A sink current. As a circuit configuration of the switching regulator, any one of a boost type, a step-down type, and a step-down type (SEPIC: Single Ended Primary Inductor Converter) can be supported.
The switching frequency can be set according to the frequency of the clock signal supplied from the outside. The 1/12 of the clock frequency is the switching frequency. However, the maximum switching frequency is specified as 1 MHz.
A dimming function based on an analog (linear) signal or a PWM signal is available. The dimming ratio is 5000:1. The package uses a 40-terminal QFN and a 44-terminal QSOP. In the US, the unit price of 1,000 units is $1.98 in a 40-terminal QFN package and $2.30 in a 44-terminal QSOP package.
